No-Tox Dental Care

I started bleaching my teeth when I was in my early twenties and have always prided myself in a white smile.  This process has completely shifted since I started living more holistically and in the last few years, I have gone back to the basics.  Taking good care of my mouth is particularly important now as my my poor teeth took a toll from nursing.  After one of my teeth lost its opacity, I knew that I wanted to get my mouth + teeth strong, since we want more children.  I am also passionate about sharing this because I know so many who constantly bleach their teeth and I want everyone to have a bright smile without using toxic chemicals.

See below, my three-step-process of oil pulling, brushing with activated charcoal and finishing with Truthpaste.

1. Pull with Coconut Oil - I don't do this daily but try to oil pull a couple of times a week.  Coconut oil pulling is a great way to detoxify the mouth and kill germs.  It also prevents cavities, cures tooth decay and strengthens your gums.  After having Wallace, my mouth wasn't as strong and pulling has helped immensely.  Coconut pulling is easy to execute but a little trying.  To pull, swish a tablespoon of coconut oil around in your mouth for twenty minutes.  I recommend doing something to take your mind off of it, it can be a little rough at first.

2. Brush with Activated Charcoal - This is the newest part of my no-tox dental care regimen and I am blown away by the results.  As I said, I have been bleaching my teeth for over a decade so I have pretty high expectations for whitening agents.  Using activated charcoal twice a day for a month made a huge difference in the shade of my teeth.  Also, a little goes a long way and is way more affordable than bleach.  To brush with activated charcoal, wet your toothbrush and brush for a minute.  Rinse well with water.

3. Brush With Truthpaste - I have countless natural toothpastes and love this brand.  It's super minty and offers so many benefits for the mouth without any chemicals.  I have found out that even though a product says organic, it doesn't mean that it's without preservatives, fillers, chemicals, fluoride, SLS, glycerin or other toxins.  Truthpaste is used as a normal toothpaste.

I hope this helps you clean up your dental care.  Is there anything I am missing, what are some holistic dental secrets that you use?

Poppy & Someday Emerald Salve

As a child and throughout my entire life, I have had intense knee pain that my family refers to as growing pains.  I am 5'4'' so I imagine there is a more accurate term for this type of ailment, but regardless of my height, these pains have been a constant in my life.  Recently, my son also started hugging his knees and I am afraid he might have inherited my pains.  Not wanting to give him over-counter-medicine, I turned to the Emerald Salve from Poppy & Someday and within about 20 minutes, he was no longer in pain.  This salve is made of hemp and lavender so in addition to reducing pain and inflammation it also calmed Wallace down.  Win win!   Emerald Salve is officially in our family survival kit.  After experiencing the amazing results in our own home, I gave this slave to my grandmother, who suffers from fibromyalgia and my brother-in-law who suffers from chronic arthritis.  Both of them saw great results and said it helped with their pain and inflammation.  I don't know about you but if I can prevent two family members from being reliant on pain meds, it's a no-brainer.  My grandmother has since gifted this salve to others that she knows and they are making the same claims.  I am so grateful for companies like Poppy & Someday who are normalizing the benefits of marijuana and making products easily available to the masses.  Can you imagine how fun this world would be if our grandparents were a little more lucid and less reliant on heavy pain meds?  If you know someone who suffers from chronic pain or a little kid who has growing pains, I urge you to try the Emerald Salve and offer them a holistic alternative to western medicine.

Quick Turmeric Latte

I know I am a little late to the game, and Golden Milks were all the rage last year, but I finally made a Turmeric Latte.  Turmeric is a staple in our home, as I enjoy cooking curries and always add it to my bone brothso throwing together a quick latte was a natural process.  If you aren't already familiar with turmeric there are a few benefits that I should mention.  It is anti-inflammatory which is great for arthritis and many western diseases including heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s.  Studies have also shown that turmeric can help with depression and is anti-aging.  There is a lot of information on turmeric and if you want a more in-depth summary of it's benefits you can go here but in this space, I try to keep it very basic so people at all levels of wellness can keep up.

Okay back to the latte.  Moon Deli is a great supplement company and their Golden Turmeric  with ginger and black pepper is next-level.  Black pepper helps your body with absorption and a lot of golden milk recipes will call for this addition, but this blend already has it.  The Golden Turmeric blend also has ginger which further helps with inflammation and digestion, among other things.  Here is the 1,2, 3, easy way that I made a Turmeric Latte.

  • Golden Turmeric
  • Vanilla Cream Stevia
  • Milk of choice, I used hemp
  • Cute Coffee Mug
  • Cute Wooden Spoon

  1.  Heat one cup of milk until warm but not boiling
  2. Add one teaspoon of Golden Turmeric Blend
  3. Add three drops of Vanilla Cream Stevia
  4. Stir and Enjoy
