Natural Feeling Spa | an eco-friendly oasis

In recent years, I have noticed that my fine less aren't so fine anymore.  All of the fun that I had in my 20's is catching up with me so I have decided that it's time for me to commit to a beauty regimen and with that, comes finding a skincare expert.  Obviously clean beauty and eco-friendly products are largely important, so when I was introduced to Adina from the Natural Feeling Spa, I knew it was the perfect fit.

The Natural Feeling Spa is an adorable place in West Los Angeles.  Decorated with mostly second-hand goods, Natural Feeling Spa is environmentally-conscious and charming.  Upon my arrival, Adina told me stories of her scavenged decor, an antique lamp that she repaired herself and where she sourced her reclaimed wood.  Each piece inside has a a history and Adina has used placed intentionally.  It's completely her vision, and it's really good.  I have a lot of respect for people who bring their dreams to fruition and Adina is one of those people.  She has worked hard to create her own business out of her vast knowledge of natural beauty and been mindful of the planet throughout her process.  She has been in the skincare industry for over a decade and schooled me on ingredients inside beauty product.  She debunked myths that I brought her way and enlightened me on new products with clean ingredients.  In short, she knows her shit and gives a really good facial.  She will tell you about your skin and recommend insanely effective beauty products.  She sent me home with this moisturizer and this night gel that I can already see working it's magic.  She also sent me home with this cleanser that is a great exfoliator.

I love the work that Adina does and am so happy that we have connected.  She was kind enough to answer a few questions on natural beauty below, I hope this inspires you to book an organic facial and start a natural beauty regimen of your own.

How did you start your journey with clean beauty?

My journey with Clean Beauty started as a child. I am blessed to say Eco-Friendly and Eco-Beauty were instilled naturally into our families lives.

What are some ways you are sustainable in your business?

In the lobby of my spa the furniture, fixtures, and some of the products are recycled, reclaimed and reused goods. I wanted to show just how beautiful your space can be without purchasing big items from big name stores.

What are some guidelines you use to choose your beauty products?

I am extremely picky when it comes to ingredients that enter Natural Feeling Spa. Everything must stay within the guidelines of Natural , Organic, Holistic, No Animal Testing, No Mineral Oil, No Fragrances, No Dimethicone and No Parabens. There are more yucky ones but these are some of the big ones I like to point out.

What is your best advice for someone without a beauty regimen?

Start with the three most important products every person should have in their bathroom. A good cleanser. A good exfoliant. And a good moisturizer. From there we can start adding high potency serums, masks and specialty products once you have that down.

What are your top three skin products?

Number one skincare line that I have been using for over 11 1/2 years is Lotus Moon Skincare. This is my go to for myself and my clients. It is the most natural, organic, holistic and active skincare line that I have been able to find out there. My second choice would be Plain Jane Beauty makeup products. This make up line has no dimethicone! Which is huge. Not only does this makeup brand give you full coverage and shade range but it also protects and heals your skin. You can tell immediately a difference when applying this versus over the counter brands. My third would be infusing LED light therapy into my treatments and for my home usage. My top choice is Lightstim LED Light therapy. A perfect world of science and nature combine together.

What is the best anti-aging product?

Lotus Moon Vita A Complex which is a combination of retinol and glycolic acid. This is amazing for fine lines wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. This product is very effective in helping to visibly reduce appearance of age spots, sun damage and large pores. Also Lotus Moon Skincare Hyaluronic Acid. This product is going to nourish and support your skin cells. Helping with environmental damage and fine lines. This is your antioxidant Boot Camp.

Your session method and how you include the chakras?

Every session or treatment is completely 100% customized. Depending on what the client is going through environmentally, hormonally, stress, diet and skin routine I will customize each treatment depending on what their skin is telling me. My goal each treatment is to not only relax but to treat my client skin. Also education is key! I love having my clients leave feeling empowered and knowledgeable about their skin care products and routine.

Jade eggs, yay or nay?

I absolutely love Jade eggs! I personally have no children but I consider Jade eggs very preventative and believe that ladies as early as mid 20s should start utilizing them. My go to brand is Chakrubs.

Anything else you'd like to add.

To go support your local shops and boutiques who are staying true to green and nontoxic principles. To be careful of products and companies that claim to be natural and green without reading labels or knowing their story. There unfortunately is a lot of green washing out there and capitalizing on this movement so be sure to support the companies who are really staying true to what they say.

To book an organic facial with Adina (which you should because if you're like me, you're probably not treating yourself to enough facials) go here.

No-Tox Dental Care

I started bleaching my teeth when I was in my early twenties and have always prided myself in a white smile.  This process has completely shifted since I started living more holistically and in the last few years, I have gone back to the basics.  Taking good care of my mouth is particularly important now as my my poor teeth took a toll from nursing.  After one of my teeth lost its opacity, I knew that I wanted to get my mouth + teeth strong, since we want more children.  I am also passionate about sharing this because I know so many who constantly bleach their teeth and I want everyone to have a bright smile without using toxic chemicals.

See below, my three-step-process of oil pulling, brushing with activated charcoal and finishing with Truthpaste.

1. Pull with Coconut Oil - I don't do this daily but try to oil pull a couple of times a week.  Coconut oil pulling is a great way to detoxify the mouth and kill germs.  It also prevents cavities, cures tooth decay and strengthens your gums.  After having Wallace, my mouth wasn't as strong and pulling has helped immensely.  Coconut pulling is easy to execute but a little trying.  To pull, swish a tablespoon of coconut oil around in your mouth for twenty minutes.  I recommend doing something to take your mind off of it, it can be a little rough at first.

2. Brush with Activated Charcoal - This is the newest part of my no-tox dental care regimen and I am blown away by the results.  As I said, I have been bleaching my teeth for over a decade so I have pretty high expectations for whitening agents.  Using activated charcoal twice a day for a month made a huge difference in the shade of my teeth.  Also, a little goes a long way and is way more affordable than bleach.  To brush with activated charcoal, wet your toothbrush and brush for a minute.  Rinse well with water.

3. Brush With Truthpaste - I have countless natural toothpastes and love this brand.  It's super minty and offers so many benefits for the mouth without any chemicals.  I have found out that even though a product says organic, it doesn't mean that it's without preservatives, fillers, chemicals, fluoride, SLS, glycerin or other toxins.  Truthpaste is used as a normal toothpaste.

I hope this helps you clean up your dental care.  Is there anything I am missing, what are some holistic dental secrets that you use?
